The Fritillaria ‘meleagris’, which grows in the Wildflower Meadow at Highgrove, is also known as the Snake's Head Fritillary because it has a charming bell-shaped, chequered pattern flower with markings that resemble snakeskin. They can be naturalised in a woodland or meadow setting but prefer damp growing conditions.

Planting instructions: Plant from August onwards. Place the bulbs' pointed end upwards, 10cm below the surface. Position the bulbs approximately 5cm apart in a partially shaded area. Water well after planting. Keep soil moist during dry periods but do not overwater. If not planted immediately, store in a cool, dry place.
