European Union

Important: EU customs changes in 2026

The European Union has changed how it taxes parcels sent from outside the EU, including from the UK. For orders with a goods value of €150 (approximately £130) or less:

  • since 1 July 2026, EU customs charge a flat €3 customs duty per item;
  • from 1 November 2026, an EU handling fee of around €2 per item also applies;
  • import VAT at your country's rate continues to apply to the goods and the delivery charge.

Orders above €150 are charged standard customs duty and VAT as before.

These charges are set by EU and national authorities, not by Highgrove. They are collected by DHL, together with any DHL clearance fee, before or on delivery. As a guide, a single item worth £25 may attract around €15–€20 in charges, depending on your country.

Please factor these charges into your order. Parcels refused because charges were not paid will be returned to us. We cannot refund purchases refused for unpaid customs charges, the original delivery charge is non-refundable, and a £34 administration fee plus the cost of return shipping will apply.

Sending a gift? Please let the recipient know that they may be asked to pay import charges on delivery.

Organic products

We cannot deliver selected organic products to Europe. Look for the (*) in the product title or "ingredients" tab, which shows that a product contains organic ingredients. Any organic products that cannot be sent to Europe are flagged at checkout.

  • Food: savouries (including chutney, mustard and jelly), preserves (including jam, marmalade and honey), biscuits, cakes and confectionery (including chocolate, sweets and fudge)
  • Drinks: tea, coffee and hot chocolate
  • Bath and body: Highgrove Gardens soap bars, the Highgrove Gardeners' skincare range and the Bramley Bath & Body collection
  • Gift sets and hampers containing any of the above

Non-EU Europe

Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and other European countries outside the EU have their own import rules. The EU charges above do not apply, but local VAT, duty and courier fees may be due on delivery and are your responsibility. The product restrictions for Europe also apply.

USA

Duties and import taxes included: no charges on delivery

Our US prices already include US customs duties and import charges, which Highgrove pays. You pay only the product price and the £55.00 delivery charge at checkout, with nothing more to pay when your parcel arrives.

UK VAT (20%) is removed at checkout for US orders. Orders normally arrive within 14 working days; customs checks can occasionally add a few days.

Canada and Rest of World

Customers in Canada and the Rest of the World are responsible for any import taxes, customs duties and associated charges due on delivery. By completing your purchase, you acknowledge that Highgrove / A G Carrick Ltd is not liable for these costs. Please see our Terms & Conditions for full details.

We cannot refund purchases refused because customs charges were not paid. Failure to pay duties will incur a £34 administration fee and the cost of shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Why am I being asked to pay charges on my EU delivery?

Since the UK left the EU, all parcels from the UK are imports. From July 2026 the EU also removed the duty exemption for parcels under €150, so customs duty, a handling fee and VAT are payable on every order.

Can I pay EU charges at checkout?

Not at present. Charges are collected by DHL before or on delivery.

Will I have to pay anything when my US order arrives?

No. Highgrove pays all US customs duties and import charges, so there is nothing to pay on delivery.

Does duty-paid delivery apply to Canada?

No. For Canada and all other non-US destinations, customers remain responsible for any import duties, taxes and courier fees on delivery.

For UK delivery, returns and refunds, see our Delivery & Returns page. Any questions? Please contact Customer Services.
