Accessibility

  • Due to the landscape and nature of the property, some garden paths are unmade, gravelled or cobbled with bumpy and uneven surfaces. Some surfaces may also be slippery when wet. We suggest wearing sturdy shoes or wellington boots and suitable outdoor clothing, especially in wet weather.
  • Wheelchairs are not available to hire, but guests are welcome to bring their own wheelchair to Highgrove. Please ensure that it is suitable for uneven ground (see above). Wheelchair users must also be accompanied by a strong companion.
  • Mobility scooters are not available to hire from us at Highgrove, but guests are welcome to bring their own mobility scooters. Please ensure that it is suitable for uneven ground (see above). A local company, Optimum Mobility, can arrange to hire mobility scooters and will deliver the scooter to Highgrove before your tour. Tel 01666 840060
  • Access companion tickets allow visitors who need assistance to bring a carer or essential companion with them free of charge to help them on their Garden Tour. Bookings including access companion tickets must be arranged through Customer Services.
  • Access companion tickets are not available for companions of guests bringing mobility scooters. They are available for wheelchair users who need an access companion to help them.
  • To ensure  that Free Essential Companion tickets are going to eligible guests,  we do request that guests submit proof of eligibility after requesting accessible tickets. Your order may be cancelled if no supporting document is provided.


    Below is a list of documents we may accept when considering allocating a complimentary ticket:

    •    PIP (Personal Independence Payment)Disability Living Allowance
    •    Letter from a medical professional, including a doctor’s note or a letter from an occupational therapist
    •    Carer's allowance
    •    A Nimbus Access Card with the +1 symbol. Visit the Access Card page for more information.
    •    Confirmation in writing from Social Services that the individual is included on their Deaf Register, or a letter or report from an aural specialist confirming that hearing loss has been recorded at 70 - 95 dBHL or worse
    •    War Pensions Mobility allowance
    •    Blind or partially sighted registration certificate (BD8 or CVI certificate)
    •    A personal letter from the GP, community nurse or social worker
    •    Benefit award letters
    •    Copy of a blue badge (we would need to see both sides)”

  • If your visit is an Event which includes a Garden Tour, access companion tickets are charged at the advertised price less the cost of the Garden Tour component.
  • Only service and assistance dogs are allowed on the Estate. Please let Customer Services know before your visit if you will be accompanied by a service or assistance dog, stating what work or task your dog has been trained to perform. If your dog is accredited as an assistance or support dog, please share that documentation with us.
  • Service or assistance dogs must wear a jacket or lead slip to identify them as working. Staff reserve the right to ask visitors to remove their dogs if they are deemed not to be behaving appropriately.
  • If you are Deaf or hard of hearing and would like to use a hearing induction neck loop that can be used with an existing hearing aid switched to the T position, please contact our Customer Services to check availability.
