A hands-on day out

This “Wing It” hand embroidery workshop centres on Eliza’s signature subject, a moth. Inspired by nature and fantasy, the wings are adorned with a botanical impression. The design reflects Eliza’s ongoing evolution as an artist, merging traditional embroidery with innovative design.

This workshop offers guests a glimpse into how heritage craftsmanship and creative exploration can coexist, creating a piece that is both timeless and fresh.

Eliza’s expertise and hands-on guidance will lead guests through each step and help them understand how to balance these materials to create depth and visual interest. There will be a variety of colour options available depending on abilities and personal preferences so guests can express individuality in their design.

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, making it perfect for beginners eager to explore hand embroidery. Each guest will receive an embroidery kit with all the materials needed to complete the design, including a pre-wrapped embroidery hoop you can take home. There is no pressure to finish your embroidery during the workshop; the focus is learning, enjoying the process, and getting inspired. The kit will also include reference materials to support you after the workshop.

Enjoy a glass of fizz while admiring your embroidery work to finish the day!

About Eliza

Eliza Gomersall is a hand embroidery artist known for her strong technical skills and dedication to high-quality craftsmanship. Based in a rural village in southeast England, she meticulously creates each piece in her home studio, drawing inspiration from the surrounding nature. Her work, which reflects the beauty of the British landscape, wildlife, and heritage, combines elements of nature and fantasy, resulting in designs that merge tradition with innovation.

After graduating from the Royal School of Needlework, Eliza received First Prize in The Hand & Lock Prize 2022 in the Textile Art Student Category for her piece titled “Palingenesis: A Story of Transformation,” which features a hand-embroidered moth with a wingspan of one meter. In July 2023, she completed the Chanel and The King’s Foundation métiers d’art Embroidery Fellowship in partnership with le19M, where she further honed her skills and gained valuable experience in couture craftsmanship. Eliza has also freelanced in couture for prestigious brands such as Alexander McQueen, Patrick McDowell, and Turnbull & Asser, expanding her expertise in high-profile projects and collaborative environments.
