Create your own masterpiece

Unleash your creativity and enjoy a day of inspiration and hands-on learning. Emma will begin by sharing her artistic journey and expertise in an engaging introductory talk. You’ll then step into the world of willow weaving, developing your skills under Emma’s expert guidance as you learn to shape and form a pig sculpture, bringing this much-loved farmyard animal to life through traditional craft.

About Emma Stothard

Emma Stothard is a Yorkshire-based willow and wire sculptor. Inspired by the creatures of the North York Moors around Whitby, where she resides, Emma mainly creates sculptures of wild and domestic animals and birds.

Emma received a BA Honours in Fine Art from Southampton Solent University before moving to the Somerset Levels for a short time to learn the process of growing, coppicing, bundling, and weaving willow. She then returned to her home county of Yorkshire to study for a PGCE at Bretton Hall, Wakefield, in the grounds of what is now the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, where she began making woven willow geese and small animals.

In 2001, with a loan from The Prince's Trust, Emma was able to start her sculpting business. After an ever-increasing demand for her work, including a commission from the Louis C. Tiffany Museum and Water Gardens in Matsue, Japan, Emma now exhibits her sculptures nationally and internationally, with some gracing the gardens of stately homes, galleries, and private homes around the country.
