This half-day workshop is designed for beginners and provides a comprehensive introduction to the art of beautiful lettering. Guided by two practising calligraphers, Beverley and Lucy Mellor, you'll receive personalised instruction and expert guidance.

Workshop highlights

In this half-day workshop, guests can master the correct pen grip and learn to create distinctive thick and thin strokes characterising calligraphy. Guests can practice writing upper and lowercase letters, connecting them smoothly, and forming words and short phrases while exploring incorporating illustrations and flourishes, including spring-themed designs, to enhance lettering. This workshop will enable guests to design and create greeting cards, wall art, and other stationery items using newfound calligraphy skills. 

All materials are provided, including a personalised starter kit, a workbook, and a selection of high-quality stationery templates.

Programme

Morning session:

  • 9:45am - Guests arrive, refreshments served
  • 10:00am - Workshop session begins
  • 12:30pm - Workshop ends and guests depart

Afternoon session:

  • 1:45pm - Guests arrive, refreshments served
  • 2:00pm - Workshop session begins
  • 4:30pm - Workshop ends and guests depart

About Mellor & Rose

Mellor & Rose is a family of women lettering artists passionate about sharing the joys of calligraphy, not only for its fabulous aesthetic but also for its much-needed mindful and calming benefits. Made up of Beverley Mellor, Polly Mellor, and Lucy Mellor, a mother and two daughters, founded in 2018, they are a multidisciplinary design business working from Manchester to London. They work with brands and clients for calligraphy and hand lettering services, and they have the total joy of hosting Modern Calligraphy Workshops and Brush Lettering Workshops at beautiful venues and spaces across the UK. Some of their clients include Chanel, Prada, and The White Company.

Mellor & Rose is committed to sustainability. They only use FSC-Certified and PEFC-Certified paper stock for all their workshops. This commitment to the environment is just one of the many ways they strive to make a positive impact through their work.

  • This workshop is suitable for all levels with no experience necessary.
  • Guests will not be admitted without a valid ticket.
  • Tickets cannot be exchanged, refunded, or replaced. The resale, alteration, or defacing of a ticket will render it void.
  • Guests are required to bring photographic identification (i.e., a passport, driving license, or bus pass). Alternatively, a bank card is acceptable.
